As winter and the new year approach, high school seniors are focusing on college applications, making this a stressful time for many. On top of sending in applications, seniors also must prepare for finals and complete other class assignments.

When faced with such pressure, students can feel overwhelmed. However, Clayton Valley provides support to help students manage academics and stress through various resources like scheduling and homework assistance.

If any student is ever faced with a situation they don’t know how to handle, representatives here at Clayton Valley strongly suggest that you schedule to speak with a counselor, who is happy to help with whatever is needed.

In addition to the counselors who can offer academic help to seniors trying to manage this stressful time, CVCHS also offers homework aid for all students. For lowerclassmen, the idea of college can seem daunting, but there are ways for students – especially freshmen –  to prepare themselves for the future, regardless of what they plan to do after high school.

Something quite unique about Clayton Valley graduation requirements and grading in general is that all students must receive a C grade or higher in all required classes in order to graduate. Whether or not you are a student interested in going to college, CVCHS has a mission to prepare all students who attend to be college-ready.

Senior Ada Jeffress has a few things she has taken into account when applying for colleges.

“The most important factors that I considered when I was applying were the location and the weather. Also, Greek life and if they had the major I like, which is speech language, pathology, or marketing,” says Jeffress.

For some students, the idea of choosing which college they want to attend can be the most difficult part. Making sure to take into consideration what works best for you is crucial in ensuring that stress is prevented come college season. For senior Sarah Karn, she has done just that.

“I’ve applied for UNR, GCU, and some schools in California. When it comes to why I chose these colleges, it's kind of like what Ada said: the weather and whether they have the major I'm interested in. I was also trying to pick places with people that I knew,” says Karn.

According to senior Victoria Mangrobang, “My personal best tips for preparing for college success are actually paying attention in class, staying consistent, and when it comes to studying, flashcards work really well for me.”

While some make the idea of college something that has to be pursued alone and solely as an individual process, it doesn’t have to be. With the help that CVCHS and its dedicated teachers and faculty offer, students aren’t forced to work alone. Help is always available for those who need it.
