Homecoming is taking place this weekend, and with that comes all the festivities as well. ASB and its committees have been working hard to get this done for students here at Clayton Valley leading up to Friday night’s football game against Liberty. The dates are set and the ball is rolling.

The timing for homecoming is a whole month earlier than last year, in September instead of October.

“Most of the dates for Homecoming are set by admin,” Justin Arevalo Mendez, an ASB member, explained. “So we kinda just have to roll with the punches.”

With all dates set by admin, there wasn't much to be done about the shorter preparation time frame. Although in a time crunch, ASB organizers were able to accomplish everything in time.

This year's homecoming theme is “Under the Sea”, chosen by the rally and homecoming committee.

“So in ASB, we have committees; it was kind of a collaboration between the homecoming committee and the rally committee,” Mendez said. “We basically just started coming up with ideas, looking for stuff online, and at the end, we just settled on the theme ‘Under the Sea.’”

If you're going to the Homecoming dance Saturday night, you might want to know a bit more about the security procedures and policies. But according to Mendez, “For homecoming, they kind of keep it the same every year. You wait in a line, and you have to empty out your pockets, which is the typical procedure. They have dogs that sniff you, just to make sure you don't have anything you're not supposed to have at events like these.”

The procedure is very similar to last year's.

ASB has been working on this project all quarter, and despite being on a tight deadline, they're all very excited to show what they've been working on. During a Homecoming press conference Tuesday inside Clayton Valley’s library, Mendez was asked what he was most excited about.

“For me personally, working on it all quarter, I think just seeing all the hard work paying off,” Mendez said. “And it's our last Homecoming, so just being with friends at our last homecoming is what's going to do it for me.” Being a senior, this Homecoming will be the last for some.

Another ASB member, Andres Watts, shared what he's excited for. "We've been working on it, and especially since it's been a time crunch and it's been a lot of a puzzle, but I'm most excited to see it all pay off, all the hard work. And also the music I'm excited for. I love music. I love getting out and dancing .”

Members of the ASB and their committees have been working diligently under a tight deadline. And they are very excited to share their hard work with everyone, whether you are attending the dance, experiencing Friday's rally, or witnessing Thursday night's parade in downtown Clayton.
